THE SABC and Generations executive producer Mfundi Vundla are sticking to their guns.
At a press briefing on Friday, Mfundi said actors who have been axed but wish to come back will do so on his terms and conditions.And SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng said the actors can’t hold anyone ransom.Sunday Sun has learnt that last week MMSV Productions and the SABC sent previous cast members royalty letters and forms asking for their banking details in order to process payment for their past roles.
A letter, seen by the People’s Paper, of one of the previous cast members, stated his royalties payout was a mere R4 000.These letters were sent out before the contracts of the 16 striking actors were terminated.
Previous stars on the show include Sello Maake Ka Ncube (who played Archie), Connie Ferguson, Rapulana Seiphemo, Vinolia Mashego, Fana Mokoena, Siyabonga Thwala, Lillian Dube, Fezile Mpela, Mxolisi Hulana, Pamela Nomvete, Faye Peters, Xolile Tshabalala, Rosie Motene, Shaleen Surtie-Richards, Akin Omotoso, Abena Ayivor, Sonia Sedibe and Wright Ngubeni.
SABC Head of TV, Verona Duwarkah, confirmed the payout. She stressed that even the fired Sophie Ndaba received royalties as she’s the only person who has been with the soapie since inception.
Mfundi added that he wasn’t worried about politicians who have entered the soapie’s fray.
At Friday’s media briefing, an adamant Mfundi told reporters: “I’m accountable to the SABC and viewers – not politicians.”
Tomorrow the 16 fired actors dubbed the “Generations Actors Guild” will hold a press conference at the Market Theatre, in Jozi.This is in a bid to “clear the air” around their dismissal. Actors who were shown the door include Anga Makubalo (MJ), Atandwa Kani (Samora), Katlego Danke (Dineo), Mandla Gaduka (Choppa), Menzi Ngubane (Sbusiso), Nambitha Mpumlwana (Mawande), Patrick Shai (Patrick), Slindile Nodangala (Mam’ Ruby), Sophie Ndaba (Queen), Seputla Sebogodi (Kenneth), Thami Mngqolo (Senzo), Thato Molamu (Nicholas), Winnie Ntshaba (Khethiwe), Zenande Mfenyana (Noluntu), Zikhona Sodlaka (Priska) and Zolisa Xaluva (Jason).
